Maintaining a consistent fitness routine such as going to the gym may not provide you with the type of body that you desire. Despite your efforts, cellulite, excess skin, and stubborn fat cells may start to cover the thighs and result in an aged and unsightly appearance. Having thighs that are covered with sagging skin may reduce your confidence levels and cause you to feel insecure. A general solution in such situations is plastic surgery.

An ideally proportioned lower body will have an outer thigh and trunk forming a perfect outline and indent towards the waist with the outer thighs having a smooth outer curve. When you look from the back there should be a well-structured fold with the thighs clearly separated from the buttocks. When you look from the front, the thighs should look smooth and well toned. There should be a firm and flat inner thigh.

A thigh lift surgery involves the reshaping of the thighs through a reduction of the surplus of fat and skin. Such a surgery provides aesthetically pleasing contours (thigh and lower body) that are proportional to the rest of the body and also much smoother skin. Depending on the shape and size of the incision, thigh lifts can be classified into different categories.

Medial/Inner Thigh Lift

Using this technique, your surgeon will make an incision in the groin fold. Such a discreet incision helps the surgeon to gain access to the underlying tissues and allows the patient to hide any post-surgical mark while wearing clothing. During this procedure, your surgeon will remove any excess skin and fat. He will then proceed to tightening the left over skin and close the incisions.

Mini Thigh Lift

If the problem is restricted to the upper part of your leg where you may have sagging tissue, then a mini thigh lift is suggested. A mini thigh lift is another version of the inner thigh lift. This technique is less invasive and requires a shorter incision in the area around the groin. The recovery period is shorter and any resulting post-surgical marks are limited.

Outer Thigh Lift

This technique requires your surgeon to make an incision that extends from the groin and circling the hip. Such an incision is usually in a v-shape. After your initial consultation where you discuss your needs, your surgeon will remove the required amount of skin and pull up the remaining skin to tighten the target area. This will be followed by an attachment of the skin to the same area.

An outer thigh lift is recommended for those who have undergone extreme weight loss that resulted in excess skin. The different options available can be reviewed during a consultation with your surgeon.

There are certain precautionary measures that need to be taken care of before and after having the surgery:

• Avoid drinking and smoking
• Restrict the usage of certain medications that can hinder the procedure
• Make sure that your thighs are clean and sterile
• You should remain hydrated and take certain supplements like vitamin C to accelerate the healing process
• Maintain regular sleeping habits and a healthy diet
• Avoid consuming any food items at least 12 hours before the surgery as a full stomach can complicate the process of undertaking anesthesia
